Checking up on the bone first thing in the morning (last of the discharge drained off), I headed down to the caern to watch some fire for a while, and try to see what sense I could make last night's observations. The non-zombies are an interesting case, and one I don’t have a ready, firm answer for. By the end of fire, I had a variety of ideas, but nothing I could… prove. No way to tell one idea from another.

After I finished, I realized that Rifthealer had shown up  while I was watching the fire. We talked a bit, but my groggy head made understanding her hard (this is getting better, though. Though… is better the right word?). After talking about her pack (great totem - Black Unicorn) for a bit, and I got around to asking her if she was still interested in learning rites. She knows some interesting magic, and so does Last-Song-Standing. Nothing I’m interested in myself, because my place in a fight is near the front, but those anti-magic rites are always fascinating. Anyhow, I arranged a trade with her, teaching her some more normal rites in exchange for helping my packmates’ education along. Hopefully this isn’t too much, too fast for those two.

We talked about the fomori (if that is what they are), and she again mentioned the pooling of the strange substance in their eyes, and their coolness. I’d arranged getting more remains from her to study, when about then, Last-Song-Standing arrived looking upset. She’d gone to the dead fomori’s home, and had considerable problems. She started seeing hallucinations; the walls started bleeding. She found strange markings in the wall, and experienced a mental attack. She thinks the place is haunted.

Ghosts. Interesting. If I take her report at face value (she always has a flare for the dramatic, but she is a Galliard), it could be a haunting from spectres. The apes could have been possessed. That could make the goo that was in their bodies ectoplasm. Tradewinds has the most experience with the restless dead, followed by myself; I’ve resolved to go with her to examine the ape home, and see what is amiss.

Ectoplasm. I got more remains to examine, and then tried working with the inky sludge again. It’s something that simply shouldn’t be. After a bit of thought, I remembered that a time ago, contacting the dead was popular amongst the apes, which is when the whites came up with the word for ectoplasm. Some research about their experiences is in-order, which means going back into the scab and looking for things to read.

So much reading lately. It makes sense, though. I’ve exhausted what I can learn from the stories around here, and there’s no more elders to study under. I still  do my studies, but when it comes to learning what others have learnt before me, it’s time to weave a wider basket, I guess.

I noticed Last Song Standing was looking very good as I left the caern. Not in the way I would have before, but... am I jealous of her? Like that pretty-bitch Fianna? So weird.
