The more I read this book, the more I’m convinced the author is possibly insane. They can’t keep a thread of thought for even a whole page, before jumping to another topic. They repeat themselves at random times. They fail to mention key concepts (I’m guessing? Half the book is unreadably damaged). They also make some very bold claims in here, about the nature of time, and the transmutation of energy. Whether they’re an idiot and insane, or brilliant and insane is unclear. Possibly both.

Reading, chores, and hunting take up most of my time the last three days, and my spare time has been filled by looking for magic sites, ‘tass’ (can I even identify it?), or trying to find a friendly mountain goat spirit. I’m starting to wonder if I’ve found something I can’t do, if I want to keep the old ways. This frustrates me greatly.

The weather was good, and it was warm outside, so I decided to be an ape for the day, and steambath, clean up, and make myself look good, and while I was drying off, I spent some time re-reading the chapter that supposedly about different styles of energies (whatever that means), when Caq came by.

She’s feeling frustrated about making the talen. She has a spirit worker to help her, the Gnawer with the clubbed foot, but she was complaining that she didn’t know enough to decide on a talen. I pointed out that the whole purpose of this was for her to learn how to make these decisions, and learn what goes into spirit working, when she started going on about ‘what’s the point’ and ‘it’s all for another auspice, anyhow.’ Sigh. I pointed out that despite combat being the warrior’s role, other auspices learn some about fighting, too, and I think she understood. I hope she understood. I don’t want her to be a theurge… I just want her to be an understanding thinker. Maybe it’s asking too much for the first ranked. I mentioned my concerns about their interest in learning, which she immediately said I had nothing to worry about, and she was just complaining.

We’ll see.

She mentioned how she thought she could take me in a fight, and… heck, maybe it was the moon, but I had her try. No gifts that I had to call on using. Just fists and rage. Pretty embarrassing, from my end - the fight went far longer than I thought it should. But aside from a few early blows, she couldn’t land a hit on me. I just slowly wore her down, until she was seeing stars. Caq didn’t take losing well. She’s too used to winning her fights. And have you seen her muscles? No wonder why! I wasn’t even that strong as a man… She got all brooding at me, and sulked off after she lost.

I did some more reading, before heading over to the caern to clear my head, and meditate on what I’d learned. By the time I finished, it was getting pretty late, and I didn’t head into the spirit lands.
