I’m finally feeling well enough to go back to work. Sniffing around, I caught Fells the wyrm’s scent, and migrated that way. It was her and another Get, Abandon’s-None, reveling in some victory over the fallen tribe. I asked if they got anything useful out of them - information about their plans, or tactics, or any of their true names. Nope. Both seemed puzzled why I’d ask for names.

Fenrir.

They kept patting him on the back, acting like no one could have guessed people would be interested in information. Abandons-None left me and the song keeper to discuss her upcoming work; she got the medicines I wanted, so I told her to start finding people to help out. After a bit, she started heading back, and I went a bit to the north.

A howl. And not a voice I recognized. A female voice? Said there’s a lost cub that we should get before the fallen tribe. It reeked of a trap. I snuck up, invisible, and scented for the lethal surprise they were going to spring on me. They left a fat cub and some toys, and nothing else. In the bawn. It smelled like a female who’d been in the scab extensively. And wolf scents.

I eventually went to the cub visibly, and asked her who brought her there. A) The cub is a recently changed lupus cub, B) It was a wolf shapechanger who brought her there. I made her pick a toy, and brought her back to Edgewood. I tried to have her shift to homid; she’d already been in war form (from what I got from her story). All the enticing doesn’t help a cub who’s exhausted and cranky make thumbs, and she took Crinos to try and get inside to get some food. Oops. Not my problem. I went over the rules, gave her some food, and headed back as fast as I could.

The scent trail of the stranger lead here and there. Definitely female. Definitely metallic, and scab. Eventually it lead to a car, turned human, and went away. A hunch: Memory just mentioned a scab woman with spirit magic around her. One who was anxious to avoid garou. The same? I don’t ignore my hunches; this all was too much of a coincidence, even if I hadn’t. I headed to St. Claire.

Took a while to get there - the rite was good, but I had a long ways to go. It would have gone faster if I didn’t stop to eat. I found her in the park meadow, and passed her casually, using my gift. Spirit magic. Talen or Fetish? Harder to tell with the fast look I made. Strong. So, probably a shape-changer. But could I be sure she was /the/ shapechanger? I waited a bit. Shit weather, but I’m on the hunt. Once she left, I followed. I didn’t do the greatest job (I wasn’t interested in using my gift again), and I think she made me. I called her by her name, and she stopped. I asked her where she found Krypto - the cub’s name on the collar. “Ad in the paper.” So she is the one.

Hard not to feel a little triumph. She asked how I knew, I waved it off. I went back to check out Krypto some more. No strange banes bound to her. No signs of bombs in her gut. As far as I can tell, it’s not a trap.

So why does this feel strange? And why the hell is a strange shapechanger going through all the effort to hide herself, and not approaching the sept like she should? I can think of a few reasons, most of which revolve around ‘she shouldn’t be here.’
