Making ammends with Earth Wisperer, and starting to build things up
Wednesday, 4 June 2014 23:00The last two days I’ve been up so late that I’m already sleeping like I am spending all night in the Umbra. Things are starting to get itchy again, like I’m spending too much time as an ape, but four legs is not the right number for studying and reading and learning these sorts of things, and I’m not going to sit around in war form when I don’t have to. The more I’ve been studying, the more I’m sure that I need a new place to do it, that isn’t a trek all the way over to that mountain to do so. I already have a place in mind; time to start, already.
This was an opportunity to go be with Humps-Everythi… no, calling him that isn’t fair. He’s not out to mount me, I know. And… ever since we killed the banes in my chimerae, it’s been easier to feel that way, too. Feel less nervous about everyone, not just him. Feel more… comfortable. Earth-Whisperer was a good packmate, and I’d resolved to have him as one again, like we intended to before.
I found him in his territory, and… maybe I just didn’t notice before, but he looks pretty good for a runt. Definitely more… impressive. Healthy looking. I could be losing my mind, but does he smell better, too? Was I that effected by the nightmares that I didn’t notice he's got more attractive while I was gone? Hell, how deluded was I? I got to sniff at him for a while - a really long while - before I told him I could use his help making storage for some of the horned serpent artifacts I had; keeping them underground, away from life.
It’s a long ways back up to the mountains, so I used the time to apologize to him for being so defensive and scared around him, and suggesting he’d have sex with anything if he had his way. It took a bit, but he seems to have accepted the apology. When we were talking, he seemed worried that his pups weren’t runts. I wonder why? I told him that I really wish I was bigger again, and he should be glad his pups aren’t as small as me. I also asked him if he’d consider packing with me again. No hesitation in agreeing.
We went to the nice hidden spot I have picked out, and got to work. I used an earth elemental to start the cave I wanted, getting as much of it done as I could before the elemental was tired out. It was a small elemental, so it wasn’t a lot. Then, Earth Whisperer howled to the mountain itself, asking it to lift just a little higher; the mountain obliged, and the cave became tall enough to use. Excellent! I can start moving things soon. It’ll be far easier to keep an eye on everything than in the promontory cave. I’ll use the cedars to start a hut in front of the cave, blocking it off, and giving me a place to do studies in privacy. I have a plan for getting it done before the end of summer. It may cost me some chiminage, though…
After that, the two of us went to go find Sapphire. She was easy to find, and I explained to her that he wanted to rejoin Uktena. It was one of the easiest sells I’ve had to make: Earth Whisperer never really stopped being with Uktena, never stopped keeping the bargains, didn’t reveal any secrets to anyone, and always kept Onyx impressed with his cunning. When it came time, he already had something to offer: an item he took from a mage. I stopped translating, and asked him to see it before we gave it to the totem. Sapphire’s going to take it, and vanish it like everything else. I wanted a chance to examine it before it vanished to wherever Sapphire would keep it. We arranged something quickly, and Sapphire was pleased.
He dangled a secret for her, and instead of telling her, stepped in and I told her it was such a good secret that it was only for his pack totem. She was so invested at that point that she agreed without hesitation. He’s in the pack, so long as he doesn’t back out on giving her the mage item. He says it’s a book that didn’t make sense to him. Implication: he can read. This is new to me. What else can he do? Did he understand me speaking my own tongue to the dragon?
Apparently he killed a mage and took this book a while back. He gave me directions, and I went and got it out of the plastic container he left it in.
Holy Grandmother of us all. Is this a…
Oh. No way I can let this be taken by Sapphire.
