Reincarnation and other business
Wednesday, 28 May 2014 23:00I had some free time - no chores needing done immediately - so I spent the morning reading. Things started falling a little more into place, but only the details, and not really the central thesis. Maybe Memory’s gift wasn’t so useful - maybe this has nothing to do with magic at all? Or maybe it has just barely anything to do with magic, so that it’d require me to know a bunch before I read it to get anything out of it. Or… I don’t know. I don’t even know what I don’t know. That’s always a tricky place to be.
I’d finished reading about their thoughts on reincarnation, and how physics proves the soul (this is all nonsense, and flat wrong), when Unfinished Business came by and said I was being boring, and that I should be out doing fun things with her. Like this isn’t its own reward! She casually mentioned that she’d met the hunchback Gnawer, as well as a time-travelling Fianna. That caught my ear. Allegedly, she got lost in the spirit lands, and came out in the now. Just my luck! A chance to test whether she’s ‘entangled’ with things in the past. If this book is right, and if she’s ‘entangled’ with others in the past, and if this matching is spiritual, and if it works on things as big as people, then she might be experiencing her present and our present at the same time. At least for a little while.
I took time to remind Unfinished Business of the crimes of the Fianna, Get of Fenris, and Shadow Lords, and why we must never trust the reincarnation of those monsters; I told her to talk to Amousuk for more. I don’t know if she will. Most see her as someone who is cold to them. Unfinished Business started asking about challenging soon, which I encouraged. She’s been first rank long enough, and has proved she’s no longer entirely a child. She’s going to challenge Slug, which I also encouraged. Of those she can, he is the most appropriate. I taught her words for making a formal challenge, and somehow (I think it was because I told her if she did a challenge in the city, she shouldn’t wear leather and moccasins) we started talking about buying her things. She’s as bad as Jordan, for wanting me to dress up. I still promise to Jordan we would go out some time… I do not look forward to that.
After admonishing her to focus on her learning again, and checking to see how well the talen was going (not well), I gave her some pointers, got her to think about the talen in depth, before she went to go bug my cousin. More time to read.
Since the Fianna was from another time, I re-read all the things I could about time in this. Not a lot; not as many as my memory told me was there. It’s more about about energy and universal consciousness, but there’s a few things I can test out.
I looked for her around the wyrmcomer’s place; new people tend to gather around there like flies to shit. I tried sniffing around for unfamiliar scents, but instead found this one from Slug. Very acrid. I tried to sneak up to figure out what the smell was about, but he caught me easy. He looked… good, without the shirt. Aside from the Charach glyph. It’s weird to even think that, though.
Slug made some explosives. Apparently he has something he’s going to do. Scouting with explosives. This sounds like a bad idea. Like something Chris would do. But, I’m not going to tell the scout-moons how to do their thing, I guess. Also, he plans on shocking Val, to teach her some caution. I’m not sure if I agree with this, either. I might warn her of the trap. Or I might let it go. She has been more bold, lately…
After some telling him about reincarnation (Odd that came up twice today - a sign?), and dealing with his usual nearly-philosophical-ponderings, I let him know how badly he stank, and left to sniff around more for the Fianna. Nothing. Oh well, it was late anyhow.
