The 'kin'.

Another night of no dreams. Maybe the rite is working. I should learn unfettered dreaming, instead of doing the whole rite of dreaming. I’ll take this improvement.

Time has been more stable since I talked to the fang, and I was hungry, so I went in to get food. My sister was there, talking to the hidden Corax. She left without seeing me, and… that makes me feel… relief. She shouldn’t see her brother as this. Nick and I talked for a bit in Yup’ik. It’s so nice to speak again, after so much English in Battlefield. All the Emanations spoke that or Mother’s Tongue. He asked about… the usual body things, and when Memory came up, I remembered her lies about Nick. I tried to sense his bird magic, but with the wyld effect fading around me, there could be the Caern Rite going on and I wouldn’t sense it. It’s like trying to see a bug while staring into the sun. It doesn’t work.

He told me that Memory is planning on making a talen to fix me. I doubt she can. She’s good at many things, and spiritcraft is not her best. I also do not want any more to do with work with purely tritatic sprits. They are a recipy for disaster. Wyld especially… so unpredictable. I can’t believe I experimented on the wyld fruit. I’m a warrior, not a spirit howler.

The Wendigo kin showed up, and he didn’t recognize me. I introduced myself, and he kept calling me ma’am. The women’s words. I… I wanted to correct him. I gave him a look. I didn’t stop him, though. It feels wrong, but he’s clearly right. Should I say it’s warm out when it’s really cold?  This is frustrating. All the while, the Hidden Corax kept looking at my ass. Thank the grandmother he didn’t say he wanted to mate with me too. I don’t think I could have dealt with that.

He told me that people who prepare food in the scab have been disappearing, leaving grey goo. This reminded me of something, but I needed to test it. It’s been a long time since I did any tests. I took all that I could get, and left to go test them. The ‘Kin’ was still looking at my ass as I left.

I used sense magic, and found that the goo had a very faint whiff of wolf-people like magic about it. Separating it out into its base components took longer. The concoction was composed of one part clothing, one part metal for eating (I think?), and seven or eight parts human flesh. I fed a bit of it to a shrew to confirm it was edible, and more importantly, the shrew thought it was awful.  This is Gnawer magic. I’ll need to let someone know.  Perhaps it’s the fallen tribe. Or, a human eater in their tribe? Interesting thought.

It’s been ages since I’ve studied something like this. Maybe I’ll pull out some of the artifacts from the Scar and see if I can learn a little more without consulting the mirror.

I’m going to try and sleep without the rite, tonight.
