I was exploring for magic things, when I caught an odd smell. The wyrmcomers were at the farmhouse, including Little Firebrand. They were talking about whether the moon god would hide her face or not. Little Firebrand was so uninterested that he just sat by the pond looking at us lecherously. I think I might have scared him back towards the pond by being bigger than him. Shouded-Arrow didn’t seem to understand any of the significance of if Luna did. Charlene didn’t think there was anything to do then. None of them understood the dangers if the moon disappeared from the sky all together, or how blessed pups conceived or born under it could be. Rogue, in particular, thought it was only because the moon is just a big rock that was having light blocked from it. She even believed apes walked on it! I can’t believe the other tribes don’t correct the ape lies. The wolf people have flown to the moon before, and it’s nothing like the apes claim. I realized then that I might be the only one at the sept who would think to try and call the moon back, if she did start to go away like they thought would happen. I needed to prepare.

I ran off to my territory, and built a pyre. From what I remember, the moon prefers sacrifices of evil people, or dangerous animals, but I didn’t have either. Not enough time to get one, either. I decided a live moose would have to do. I was almost out of time, so I called on Unfinished Business to help herd a moose towards me, while I sat scentless and invisible, until the moose was running from her, and I tackled it to the ground. We tied it up after it kicked us repeatedly, and we lifted up to the pyre. I had to remember what little I remembered about how the Water Jaguar people did their sacrifices - so long since I asked about it - but I got most of the important details right. When the black spot appeared on the moon god’s face, we sated her bloodlust with the sacrifice, and some of our own blood, before we howled for her to come back. Me and Unfinished Business then sat watching the moon, until the end. She told me she’s thinking of challenging for second rank. This is good. She’s ready.

Luna came back, which is good. I wasn’t ready for the end of times yet.

During the eclipse, the moon god went near a blue star. Astrology has always been a weak topic of mine, so I’m not sure what the significance of that is.
