Going through the list of the innocent to find the guilty
Thursday, 10 April 2014 23:00I was up pretty late doing things with the gauntlet, so it was a late start out hunting down the prime suspects that may had intruded in my brain: First was the nosiest of the two: Black-Light.
Questing stone took me pretty much directly to Edgewood, so I stopped doing the right half-way and just did a little jog there. I started looking for him in the garage, where I ran into Scar. I stopped long enough to talk to him about Lynn, and let him know she’s in town, and I, personally, wouldn’t mind if she helped with any of the veil breaches. Whether Lynn does or not is up to her, though… He seemed to think I was saying he should use her for the latest troubles. Maybe my English hasn’t got back to great, yet.
About then, Black Light snuck up on me, and started complimenting me. It nearly made me jump out of my skin. The Shadow Lord - Firebrand - came by, but I didn’t talk to him (Scar did). Black Light was eager to talk about his pack, and wanting to increase his strength of spirit, which made it easy for me to investigate him. He let me examine him, and in doing so, I confirmed he had not been inside my head. I’m not sure he has the means to (or, he doesn’t understand how he could). I gave him some advice who to talk to, since I’m busy, and he couldn’t learn much useful things from me at this point, anyhow; the rhythms of the scab are different from the ones I immerse myself in, and there’d be a gap in understanding. He also asked me and Scar (when Scar was done talking to the Shadow Lord) about if we knew where to get tattoos. I pointed out I /had/ tattoos around my collar… and this lead him to stare at my breasts for a while.
I swear to the grandmother’s name, if he wasn’t gay, I would have put his head through a wall. As it was, I could barely stop myself from beating him. I need to keep telling myself this is normal, and what others are going to do, but I don’t like it at all. I got out of there before I beat him up on principle.
Took a little bit to blow off some anger, and go for a short wander through the bawn. I found some young squirrels to eat, and having some fresh meat in my stomach helped my attitude. It didn’t take much time to find the next candidate: Song-of-Vengeance. I thought I’d have to go to the scab for her, but the rite lead me to the old Farmhouse. It’d been torn down, and trees re-seeded, while the barn had been made into a workshop. It stank of her inside, so she must have spent some time in there, working metal. She tried to speak something to me, but it was /so/ incredibly far from my people’s tongue that I had to tell her to stop before I started feeling embarrassed for her. She showed me around her forge, which reminded me lots of Grinds the Rail. I wonder if that bastard is still alive. I know I shouldn’t be thinking these thoughts, but I might just kill him if he still lives. The Fianna intruders need run out of Two-Stumps, and he has such a punishment coming for him.
My mind alternated between thinking about killing him, and how to check Song of Vengeance, as she explained things about the workshop, before she suddenly started telling me how she liked the way I looked. That brought me back there, pretty fast. Conversation got serious for a moment, as I told her that I just wasn’t comfortable with others complimenting how I looked as a female. There was an opportunity to check her as we talked about this, and I took it - Song of Vengeance hadn’t been in my mind, either.
Later, I got a chance to think things over for a while. My two top candidates were eliminated. Who else could it be? Not my packmates - neither have the know-how. Some of the story keepers do, but none of them have interacted with me in a while. Tradewinds? Except she doesn’t know I had the dreams. Copperhead is too submissive and young, I think. Fire-Dancer? Don’t make me laugh. Corax can’t read dreams, can they?
I don’t know if they can or can’t… but Memory has used other, similar gifts with me before. It used to be how we primarily communicated, before she learned tricks for understanding me in the wolf form, and for learning to speak Mother’s Tongue.
I tried questing stone for her, but it failed - not because she’s blocking me (she could be), but because I messed up the rite while performing it. That’s fine, I’m unlikely to get anywhere close to where she is, anyhow.
