I went straight to Tail-Eater as soon as I could, but the bus slowed me up. Jordan gave me fare, at least, so I’m not broke again. From there, to Kent’s and then I went on foot to make it to his cabin. No howling, just straight to his door and knocking. Interestingly, his shiny car is gone. Odd.
He was wearing Jedi robes and watching TV. I asked him, point blank, if he had been in my head. I promised him I wouldn’t be angry if he said yes. He said no. But he had to think about it. He said that sometimes, his mind has reached out in his dreams, and accidentally touched other dreamers. But he said he’d remember if he did.
The admission boded well, and he seemed entirely honest. I believe him. But this means we have a very, very big problem. Someone was exposed to the infectious nephandic idea, and didn’t know what they were getting into. When he suggested going in my mind, and re-playing the dream, I explained what they’d saw, and he saw re-dreaming that dream was not to be done lightly, even for a mage. He also saw the extreme danger the intruder was in, and what danger that put all of us in.
Oh, gaia, what if someone tries to draw any of the symbols? That could eat their brain from the inside, if it doesn’t draw dark energies to the site right from the get go.
I think Tail-Eater’s exact words were ‘Oh fuck.’
We went over the list of people who’d shown an interest in my dreams lately. Top of the list is Black Light, who had had the prophetic dream, and who wants to pack under Chimera. Maybe Tradewinds. Song of Vengeance? She’s a song keeper, and that’s their gift. And jumping into an Uktena’s mind sounds fool-hearty enough to be her doing.
He let me grab a book before I went, to read. I found one that had… well, more later. Important things first: we went back to the Rez, so Tail-Eater could try and do a ritual to track where the magic may have come from. I stayed outside (I didn’t want to stay in the back of his car with him. It seemed too… cramped) and watched out for trouble. But not close enough. I stopped reading in time to see him being hassled by a bunch of drunk kinsman for being a peeping pervert outside Jordan’s apartment. We couldn’t explain to them what we were up to, so I had to step in and run them off. A few of them ran off from my rage, the rest because I got in their faces, but the last man tried to start a fight. Said shit about me, tried to smash Tail-Eater’s car’s lights. I didn’t waste time, and went right to using a fear gift on him. He ran off, pissing himself. This felt… good. Really good. I kind of wanted to punch him out, too, but I didn’t get a chance. He was easily twice my size, and I scared the piss out of him. It actually... feels kind of good.
I told Tail-Eater that the Rez’s tegustet would be coming, and we didn’t want to have to explain to them what we were doing. I think he came to the same conclusion before I did, and we got out of there. He can try again later, but right now, it’s too late to try and track the intruder.
Shit.
I mean, really shit. This is bad.
When we were driving out there, we had some time to talk. He doesn’t think Star Wars is racist, though he made a good point about Lando - Lando had to make a call between doing what’s best for many, and what’s best for few. This is true. And it’s a very Uktena idea. I didn’t think of it. How weird. We also talked about some of the scenes, too. While he were driving, I realized that like it or not, we both trusted each other. We have to, we have no choice. He knows about some of the dangerous knowledge in my head - some of which would at least get me in grave trouble with the rest of the sept if they knew some of what I knew - and I know him as a mage, which would be hunted down and killed by several in our sept. I pointed this out to him - that I hold nothing over his head that he couldn’t hold over mine - but I’m not sure he got it. Sometimes, I’m not the best speaker.
Sometimes? Try most of the time.
He let me look at his library while he got out of his robes. So many interesting things here! I want to know what’s in the locked shelf, but it’s his home, and I wasn’t going to peek without asking him. I’m very curious now, though. I found a book that was about the role of guardian angels in the world. Very… ‘new age.’ Mostly worthless. But some diagrams caught my eye as something that would be… interesting. Ways of thinking about the elements, and their relations to each-other. Sub-elements. There were also lots of interesting tid-bits about the spiritual resonances of materials. Some of it I knew (Ruby’s like fire, Diamonds are of the earth, turquoise is the universal stone, born in the days of the summer country), but some of it was new, and interesting. Once you got past the nonsense about angels and choirs and all that, there was some interesting information there about crystals, too. Some of which I knew was true, which makes me hopeful about the new things I read. I didn’t get much time with the book before I had to break up the fight, and I gave it back to Tail Eater at the end of the night. I’ve copied down a few interesting bits I read the best I can remember them.
